NEW IB BIOLOGY CURRICULUM

The new Biology curriculum is not organized in traditional units but rather as a 4x4 matrix with "Themes" as rows and "Levels of Organisation" as columns. This is to emphasize the new focus on conceptual understanding of Biology and to show that all subtopics within Biology are interconnected and part of a bigger picture rather than individual ideas. It also means that topics can be learned in any order!

The new curriculum and exams will have a focus on links made between topics so these should be emphasized when studying subtopics. Ask yourself: how is this concept related to another we've learned?". Use "Linking Questions" in each subtopic as a guide.

The aim of the syllabus is to integrate concepts, topic content and the nature of science through inquiry
